Back to Basics

The storm arrives
Walls shaking
Blinding lightning
Thunder overpowers

Connections broken
Machines lifeless
Pouring rain and increasing darkness
Childhood memories abound

I duck down on the largest crash
Forgetting the roof still stands
My system still in shock
Stumbling towards the lanterns

All the cords and all the cables
Yet, not the one I need
The radio dies of old age
Cut off from the world

All at once my brain ignites with thought
Needed wires close at hand
Hidden in my vehicle
Quietly waiting to be used

Unlock the door and lift with all your strength
Use your legs, your back, and hands
Is this worth a torn muscle?
Perhaps

Success!
The tiny computer will be revived
Silence joins the darkness as the storm fades away
A graphic novel keeps me distracted from reality
